Michael Unger is an opera and theatre director based in New York City. He is Associate Artistic Director and Director of Education at Off Broadway's York Theatre Company. He is also the Producing Artistic Director of NewArts - a theatre and character development program in Newtown, CT that offers healing through the arts to the community wracked by the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. To date, he has directed ten large-scale musicals for NewArts involving over 500 children onstage, backstage and in the orchestra. The children work with Broadway professionals on a daily basis for an entire summer. He is featured in the award-winning documentary feature film, "Midsummer in Newtown." He has directed many plays musicals and operas all over the world. World premieres include "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," Caligula" (winner of the NYMF's inaugural Best of the Fest), "A ROCKIN' Midsummer Night's Dream."
